The World Beyond series finale made for an exciting hour with its Darth Maul nod, its tragic addition to the One Arm Club and its dramatic melee fights. Overall, the series was a success, and the finale did a good job of wrapping up its ow storyline. However, in the grand scheme of things, the series did nothing but flesh out the CRM and introduce some characters that, as of yet, don't have any connection to the main The Walking Dead storyline. So, there has to be a hidden reason for making the series in the first place.

World Beyond may have found a good stopping point, but really, it only felt like a season finale. It wasn't conclusive enough to be the end of a series because it left a lot of questions unanswered and a lot of characters' fates up in the air. In fact, when looking at the whole series from a bird's eye view, it felt like a stepping stone or a launching pad for something, or many somethings, that are yet to come. And it turns out, that might be the case after all.

Because World Beyond was only planned to run for two seasons, fans knew that Sundays' episode would be the series' last. However, a post credits scene left many fans gawking at its possible ramifications. The scene in question showed a callback to The Walking Dead's first season, when a French scientist watched a video of Dr. Jenner, the American virologist, on her computer. Suddenly, a man appeared with gun in-hand and blamed the scientist and her colleagues for starting the outbreak. Then he shot her, and seconds later, she reanimated with much more vigor and purpose than any other walker had previously displayed.

Speaking with Insider, Scott Gimple, The Walking Dead Universe' chief content officer, explained a little bit about the post credits scene. Notably, he said, "Obviously it's setting up a new story. Its connection to 'World Beyond' isn't as direct. It's one big story, and it's the start of a new chapter of that story." That seems to indicate that some new project will have to involve the French, leveled-up walkers or an overseas spinoff. How any of that will connect to the overall universe could be "surprising," as Gimple said.

While that's exciting, Gimple also mentioned that fans may not have seen the last of the characters from World Beyond: "Each of the characters, we'd love to have a future. There's a lot of stories that, absolutely, we want to keep telling. There's some in there that just need to be told." While that isn't definitive, it does make it more likely that the World Beyond characters will show up in some form in the future. How and where those characters will appear is anyone's guess at the moment. The Rick Grimes movies (if they ever happen) would be an easy answer. Crossing over into Fear the Walking Dead or the franchise's flagship series could also be a possibility. Either way, the universe is ever expanding and any number of new series could also be announced.

Regardless, it's clear that World Beyond will end up acting like a bridge between the past and the future of The Walking Dead universe, and the post credits scene perfectly exemplified that. Bringing Dr. Jenner back while connecting him to whatever the future might hold was a moment that could mark the beginning of all the stories finally colliding.
